I've been continuing to experiment with white. On this Apothecary, I used a light gray as the base color, with white highlights. I was concerned that it would turn out too dark, but it seems like it works out okay. Jen wants me to try using bone color as the base, but I'm afraid that it will make them look like Deathwing...
I definately don't think it looks too dark. The hardlines look great. Painting objects white has the same problem as black (but inverted); you can't highlight white (or shade black). I think your use of gray is a great way to avoid this unfortunate loss in dimension. My brain still interprets this as a white model. I agree that bone would make him look Deathwing. Dark Angles aside, I usually pick gray or bone based on whether I need that part to have a "cool" (blue-based) or "warm" (red-based) feel, respectively. In this case, your gray provides better contrast to your red accents.
